Mechanical Comics, by Ernesto Priego (2025)
Mechanical Comics is a 16-page comic book including a set of 15 wordless one-page comics by Ernesto Priego, created with Public Domain images from the British Library’s digitised collections, serendipitously found through its Mechanical Curator.
This issue documents, on print, an online project of constrained creativity and public engagement with open-access library collections.
These wordless pages prompt reflection on authorship, ownership, and legacy. As experimental comics, they explore how non-algorithmic digital technologies can potentially reimagine historical images and creative processes, and uncover new textures, details, and stories.
The first edition is a numbered, (very) limited edition of 20 copies.
